About Me

Experience -

Hi, my name is Nancy Moorshead. I am a professional massage therapist, licensed in New Jersey and New York.

I have 15+ experience providing service for people in private homes, assisted living communities and acute care settings. I work with seniors who are active and those with advanced illnesses or mobility restrictions using a walker, wheelchair, or hospital bed.  The areas I visit are Essex County and Bergen County, NJ.

I graduated from the Swedish Institute of Massage in New York city. Then I worked for 10 years in Maryland at destination resorts -The Spa at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay and The Spa at Perry Cabin.

Now I provide comforting and medical massage to people in their homes.  I have discovered that it's easier when people don't undress and they rest the way they are accustomed to.  I can work if you sitting fully clothed, even wearing jewelry and shoes, or if you stay lying on a bed. I sometimes use lotion on any dry skin.

My geriatric training brings specific approaches for fragile skin, vulnerable joints, recurring pain, and cognitive issues.

I have years of experience dealing with oncology and orthopedic conditions,  and I often work with patients who are healing from fractures and undergoing treatments or have long term illnesses. I try to coordinate with any health care team available.

I was curious why acupressure is often beneficial, and I studied shiatsu and reflexology, which provides focus on specific points This can help balance and revitalize energy and moods.

I like to think that everyone I touch is a friend, maybe they need a boost today, sometimes in restful quiet, sometimes with cheerful chatting. Whatever is more comfortable, is what I aim to provide.

I see the benefit of touch personally.  Even people who are nonverbal often express how much they love the attention, by pulling my hand close, or closing their eyes. People who are discouraged say they feel wonderful now. People with brain fog and exhaustion suddenly answer questions and respond clearly.  People who were in pain say that even if the pain is not gone, at least they can move better.

My favorite clients are patients and caregivers who are immersed in their own world. I love seeing them relax in peace and enjoy life, even if it's just for a moment.  Snores and smiles are high compliments of trust to me!

I was a family caregiver for 12 years so I understand the experience of dealing with changing and unexpected situations.
